CHAPTER-12

GAYATHRI'S POV:

It's Sunday, and I was alone at home because everyone had gone to the temple. I was just sitting and chilling, enjoying my favorite green packet Lays. With nothing else to do, I picked up my phone, planning to scroll through Instagram since I hadn’t checked it all morning.

That’s when I noticed something interesting—Varun had posted a note with the lyrics of Wanna Be Yours by Arctic Monkeys. An idea sparked in my mind, and without hesitation, I posted Baby I’m Yours in response.

Not even five minutes later, I noticed another note pop up between our posts. It was none other than my brother, Sathya. I burst out laughing, tears forming in my eyes. His timing was just perfect, and the whole situation was too hilarious to ignore.

But just as I was catching my breath from laughing, a strange feeling crept over me. A sense of unease settled in my chest. Something was about to happen—I could feel it.

As if on cue, I heard the main door open. My family was back from the temple, and panic set in. I quickly turned off the TV, rushed to my room, shut the door, and locked it. My heart pounded as I heard their voices echo through the house.

“How dare she go out without our permission? And that too with those two idiots!”

My breath hitched. How did they know? How did they find out that I had gone out with Varun and Sathya? My friends… the ones they were now referring to as idiots.

Tears welled up in my eyes because I knew exactly what was coming next. They were going to make me experience hell. Just thinking about it made my breath grow weaker. My chest tightened, and I struggled to inhale. Panic took over, making it harder to breathe.

Without wasting another second, I grabbed my phone and went straight to my recent calls. Only three contacts appeared—Sathya, Varun, and Adhithya. My fingers trembled as I clicked on Sathya’s number. The call connected within two rings.

His voice came through immediately, filled with concern.

“Yenna, Gayu? Yennachi? Ippo call pannirukka? Yethaana problem ah? Is everything alright?” (What happened, Gayu? Why are you calling now? Is there a problem? Is everything alright?)

I wanted to respond, but I couldn’t. My body was too focused on trying to breathe properly. My lips trembled, my throat constricted, and words refused to form.

Then I heard him again.

“Wait, I’ll add Varun.”

Within seconds, another familiar voice came through. Varun’s voice—filled with worry and panic.

“Hello?”

The moment I heard him, a small sense of relief washed over me. But it wasn’t enough. Tears started rolling down my cheeks, and a choked sob escaped before I could stop it.

“Panda ma, what’s wrong?”

The concern in his voice broke something inside me. I clenched my phone tightly and finally mustered the courage to speak. My voice was weak, trembling, barely above a whisper.

“V… Va… Varun… Sathya… please… save me.”

Before I could say another word, the door burst open. My relatives stepped into the room, and my worst fears came true.
